Message from Rev. Dr. Tobias

We are in Thailand, Koh Samui, that is an island in the Gulf of Thailand, not far from Suritthani. It is so relaxing and so nice to be away from all the hussle of the big city, to focus.
Every morning I have my quiet time on the verandah, in the midst of the sounds of nature, looking into the green of the coconut forest, reading the Bible, praying for the inmates (should also pray more for the students as now the term has started). And the rest of the day I am working on some writing, reading, etc.
In between I go for a lunch at the sea, just 500 m from our house, have a quick dip in the water.

1. 本星期週四晚會(13/9)的主題是介紹新同學，請各位新同學（不論任何課程），在當晚帶同一件可以代表自己的物件作分享之用；並請各同學準時(6:30pm)出席參與敬拜、晚餐及晚會。
2. 誠邀各同學參與負責週四晚會的敬拜部份，並普通話及英語的翻譯協助，有興趣的同學請在學生會壁報上適當位置填上，謝謝。
3. 祈禱會將在下星期正式開始，早禱會：逢星期四8:00am-9:15am（神學樓地下），午禱會：逢星期五1:00pm-2:30pm（神學樓四樓小聖堂），歡迎各老師、同學參與。

Dr. Kwan on Fieldwork Education

Updated message from Prof. Simon Kwan:

Dear term-time fieldwork students (2007-2008),

Concerning the v. brief fieldwork meeting that I mentioned in my previous message,some students said that they couldn't come due to time-clash (Hebrew class). Pls.note the following rearrangements

1. this v. brief fieldwork meeting will now be held on 14 Sept (Fri), fr. 11.45am to 12.15pm, still in my office;
2. pls. note that only those students who are/will be ACTUALLY DOING their CREDIT-EARNING fieldwork in this term (2007-2008 term) have to come. That means,
1. those who have already done their fieldwork in the 2007 summer and are now planning to register credits in this term for the summer fieldwork DON'T have to come (unless they will start another fieldwork placement in this term), and
2. those who are/will be "ACTUALLY DOING" their NON-credit-earning fieldwork (e.g., some of you may be doing fieldwork SOLELY upon the request of your sponsoring church) DON'T have to come.

If you are going to have your fieldwork education in this term, pls. note the following:

1. Our FIRST VERY BRIEF FIELDWORK MEETING WILL BE HELD AT 5.30PM ON 13 SEPT (thur) IN MY OFFICE. All who will be doing their fieldwork (credit earning only) starting from this term MUST come.
2. Pls. visit the field education website, where
1. the updated version of fieldwork handbook (i.e., all-about-fieldwork-that-you-should-know) is available for download (pls. come to me for hardcopy)
2. Pls. be reminded that you should have already submitted an application form (downloadable at http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/theology/field/application.doc) to me 3 months AGO. If NOT, pls take action IMMEDIATELY; or else, your fieldwork may NOT be able to earn credits from the Divinity School.
3. At present, I have received only 3 applications: Winnie Tsang, Ho Sum Yi, and Maggie Tang. If you've already submitted an application but your names are not in the above list, pls, let me know as soon as you can, for I may have overlooked your submission.

Dear all,
Film show invitation from Kowloon Union Church Total Denial - is a dramatic and moving documentary which chronicles the personal and political journeys of the groundbreaking human rights lawsuit brought by both EarthRights International and villagers from Myanmar against
the oil giants Unocal and Total. This film is directed by the winner of 2006 Valclav Havel Human Rights Award - Milena Kaneva. The film is organized on 15 September 2007 (Saturday) at 7 pm in Kowloon Union Church. (Jordan MTR exit B) Advocate of peace, and to concern and support people suffering from violence and human rights abuse are mission of God and the Church, wish you would come and join.
